Porsche always had this problem: If they release a car that isn’t a new 911, fans start nagging because it isn’t a 911. If they release a new 911, fans are upset because it’s not like the old 911. The 944 (and it’s predecessor the 924) got a lot of meh from the community, mostly because it shared VW parts, utilized a water cooled Audi engine, and – wasn’t a 911.
Wind has changed and now we know the 944 IS a great car and a true Porsche (except the door handles, who obviously VW).
